A virtual machine is when computer software imitates an independent physical computer. The software that does this, is called a hypervisor. Hypervisors cones in two categories, type 1 and type 2. Type 1 hypervisors are installed directly onto a computer’s hardware as the operating system of the machine, while type 2 hypervisors are installed onto a already running operating system. Examples of type 1 hypervisors are; zenserver, proxmox, vmware sphere and windows server. Examples of type 2 hypervisors are; virtualbox, vmware workstation, and vmware fusion.
